100 Strangers: Stranger 35

Stranger Number 35: This is Yoshifumi Kono from Ishikawa, Japan. He's been in NZ for 1 year and 8 months now, working as a Chef and Team Leader at Wagamamas, a Japanese noodle house. Seen here enjoying his own "off the menu" lunch creation :)

The original thread for my 100 Strangers is buried in the archives here. If you want to read my Strangers' full descriptions in more detail you can check my 100 Strangers set on flickr, and you can also see alternate pictures of them in my 100 Strangers Alternates set.

Saturday Around Town

Saturday itinerary: brunch with the boys, photo walk with Caj, a few more shots of "The Crazy Asian Biker" (Dan), and shop for my Halloween costume for the upcoming Weta Halloween blowout extravaganza :) It's been a while since I've just wandered the city taking photographs, so it was good to get out and snap some shots of something OTHER than beautiful models....haha... :P

We passed through Civic Square on the way to the waterfront. Passing by the Michael Fowler Centre I liked this shot of Karim's exhibition from the outside. This view actually shows a few of my favourite photos...rice field, single boat on the blue water, lady selling fruit, bearded man, and levitating kids. There are many other faves of course, but you'd have to check out the show for yourself to see them.

It seems that EVERYONE shoots this, I don't even know the 'official' name of it. Now it's my turn to shoot it...again...I think I've shot it before but probably never liked any of the images.

Karim Sahai, "Yatra": Friday Night Opening

Last night Karim Sahai (fellow Weta colleague/photog/friend) opened his photo exhibition "Yatra" at the Michael Fowler Centre, a photographic journey through India. A few of us from work went to check it out. Who brings a camera to a photography exhibition?...me :) Just some random snaps "from the hip" again.

Note to self: must work on my "stealth technique" when shooting from the hip...on the left I'm being busted by Caj as evidenced by him pointing directly at my camera...haha..DOH! And the image on the right just made me laugh so I had to post it. Matt flashes me the international hand sign for "Hello friend!"...ummm...or am I mixing that one up with something else? :)

The infamous Count Toasty looking quite jovial, perhaps full of a few alcoholic beverages? Just kidding...ah-ah-aahhhhh.

Sunny Weekend :)

This weekend we had AWESOME weather in Welly, two days of glorious sunshine, and shorts and tshirt weather. I dodged some of my obligations and procrastinated a few chores (I still managed to get my taxes together for my accountant though!), and managed to get out for a bit of sun. Went out for a very quick hike on Saturday with the "Crazy Asian Downhiller" a.k.a. Dan Moy. We were scouting the bike trails on Mount Victoria for locations to do some upcoming action shots with him on his bike...speed and jumps. Stay tuned...

Sunday a bunch of us from work went go karting. No pics this time from me. A blast as always. After karting I was supposed to meet up with Shannon and Flo to shoot some photos of them surfing at Lyall Bay. Unbeknownst to me, they were leaving just as I was arriving and actually drove past me? Although I didn't see them I decided to hang around and enjoy the weather, and managed to get some decent shots of unknown surfers.

Portfolio Shoot: Sarah Knox, Professional Dancer

Last weekend I had a portfolio shoot with a local Professional Dancer, Sarah Knox. She currently dances with the Footnote Dance Company where she also teaches some classes. She needed some updated headshots for her CV and her agent, and also wanted some contemporary dance images depicting motion. We took care of the headshot stuff but weren't able to do the movement images. Instead of doing in studio shots for those, we may move those outside for a different feel. When we shoot those I'll add them to this post. These are just a couple of the headshots that she chose for herself. Typically I've found Models to be the most critical of their images, but Sarah told me she was VERY finicky about her headshots...oddly enough she chose quite a few of them.

...more to come...

A Lazy Sunday Afternoon

A lazy Sunday afternoon...sometimes it's good to have one. This one consisted of breakfast at SweetMothers (mmm...breakfast burritos) with a couple of friends from work (Jenny and Dan above), then we met up with "T" (aka Katreena, and her bf Ricky) for a short stroll across the city to Borders bookstore, for a hearty serving of "absolutely nothing at all"...a few coffees, one hot chocolate, a whole lot of magazines and books, and a bunch of laughs. Throw in a tattoo of a sheep and you're all set! :)

Massage for Dummies? I said get me a book on "cooking"...guess you had to be there :)

The tattoo parlour...baaAAAaaa...

"T" is short for "Katreena"...don't ask, it's complicated...ok, not really :)

...kicks...

This dude was out cold in la-la-land...click...click...click... :)
